October 26, 2016, Soc Trang Province: Workers on a construction site next to the Mekong (part of it is visible in the background). These sites leak harmful chemicals into the soil which cause erosion, leading to silt run off and sediment pollution. Silt and soil run off leak into natural waterways and turn them murky. This cuts off sunlight and destroys aquatic life, further damaging the echo system. The run off also carries toxic chemicals and cement that poison the water life and the animals that drink it. Lastly they also leak into the ground water, posing an imminent risk to human drinking water.
