René, Morten and Kenneth believe it belonged to a young humpback that washed up on the same beach earlier this year (July 2024). The trio also shared images of the penis to Instagram. “A big weird creature washed up on land close to Snogebæk on Monday,” an extract of the post read. “It turned out, after some speculation, to be a penis belonging to the young humpback whale that earlier this year, washed up at Dueodde in south Bornholm.” In the first photo, Morten Gebhardt and Kenneth Nielsen can be seen holding the penis. In the second image, the lengthy penis can be seen laid flat on the ground. Humpback whales can grow up to 19 meters long, weigh up to 36 tons and live for 80 to 90 years. The trio took the penis to the NaturBornholm Natural History Centre, where there is planned to be further research. But for now, the limb is being kept in a freezer.
