(NYT40) UNCERTAIN, Texas -- July 29, 2007 -- TX-ENDANGERED-LAKE-2 -- Caddo Lake, the largest natural lake in the South, is known for its cypresses, teeming fisheries and waterfowl habitats in Uncertain, Texas, on Wednesday, July 25, 2007. The weed suffocates all life beneath it. With more acreage under water than Minnesota, Texas has just 166 bodies of water commonly considered lakes. All but one of them, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, are man-made reservoirs, most created in the 1950s to fend off drought. (Michael Stravato/The New York Times)
