In the days before blood glucose monitors were available, many physicians recommended that diabetics not participate in endurance events such as marathons or century rides. But now there's a generation of Type-1 diabetics who run on insulin, and companies that help athletes with figuring out how best to manage their illness so that they beat the competition come race day.
