(NYT48) NEW ORLEANS -- Sept. 20, 2005 -- NEW-ORLEANS-COFFEE-2 -- Contractors continue the cleanup as Procter and Gamble employees survey the damage by Hurricane Katrina at the Folgers Plant in New Orleans on Monday, Sept. 19, 2005. Three weeks ago, Procter & Gamble's New Orleans coffee operations came to a halt, shutting down four sites that account for production and storage of well over 70 percent of its Folgers and Millstone brands. By Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, though, P&G's coffee bean silo at the Port of New Orleans was taking new shipments, and its main coffee roasting plant and distribution center for the nation resembled nothing so much as two self-sustaining small towns -- complete with trucks hauling in drinking water each hour, an on-call helicopter and emergency medical team, and more than 120 mobile homes lining the parking lots for employees.
