(NYT12) HOUSTON -- Sept. 25, 2005 -- RITA-HOUSTON-2 -- At a Houston gas station, people waited for the manager to reset the pumps so that they could fill their cars up after the station received a gasoline delivery on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005. More than 2.5 million Houston residents fled town ahead of Hurricane Rita, creating a monster of a traffic jam. Now that Rita is history, they are starting to make their return. Hurricane Rita, which passed through the Gulf region on Saturday, caused far less damage than officials had feared, and there were no reported deaths connected to the storm.
