(NYT26) PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Feb. 13, 2005 -- FLA-ROOFS-3 -- Workers with Treasure Coast Roofing Co., work on replacing the roof of a residential home in Port St. Lucie, Fla., Feb. 9, 2005. The entire roof was being replaced after this past season's hurricane damage. Florida has about 4,000 licensed roofing contractors, which may be enough in a normal year but not after violent storms sheared shingles, punched holes and sometimes blew off roofs in wide swaths of the state.
