(NYT58) MARINA DEL REY, Calif. -- March 2, 2005 -- Adv. for Sun., March 6 -- FILM-AS-LANGUAGE-2 -- David Hendrie in Marina Del Rey, Calif., on Feb. 27, 2005. Hendrie is using what he's learned at the University of Southern California film school to create military training applications for USC's Institute for Creative Technologies. In today's climate, film schools are beginning to attract those who believe that cinema isn't so much a profession as the professional language of the future. For some next-generation students, the shot at a Hollywood job is no longer the goal. They'd rather make cinematic technique N newly democratized by digital equipment that reduces the cost of a picture to a few thousand dollars and renders the very word "film" an anachronism -- the bedrock of careers as far afield as law and the military.
