(NYT48) BAGHDAD, Iraq -- June 11, 2004 -- IRAQ-CAMP-4 -- U.S. soldiers enter one of the main palace doors at Camp Victory, the U.S. military base created from a former palace in Baghdad, just beyond the Baghdad airport, May 31, 2004. Camp Victory already holds more than 14,000 troops and is home to the two headquarters responsible for strategic planning and daily military operations in the Iraqi capital, as well as to the 1st Cavalry Division, charged with security in Iraq.
