(NYT12) ANANTAPUR, India -- June 5, 2004 -- INDIA-FARMERS-SUICIDE -- Gurram Pramila tries to help Indian farmers in financial distress in Anantapur, India in May. In the past six years, 2,000 to 3,000 farmers are believed to have committed suicide in Andhra Pradesh, India. Fifty to 100 have killed themselves since a new state government took office in mid-May promising farmers relief.
