(NYT30) HOUSTON -- October 6, 2003 -- DRUG-DIAGNOSIS-SUIT -- The trust set up to compensate people injured by fen-phen, the once-popular diet drug, says that an alliance of doctors and lawyers filing invalid claims threatens to drain its coffers. The dispute intensified in Sept. 2003 when the trust filed a lawsuit against one doctor, asserting that she signed off on claims for people whose injuries should not qualify them for compensation. George Fleming, whose Houston law firm has filed about 1,000 claims in the case, in his office on Sept. 29, 2003. (Michael Stravato/The New York Times)
