(NYT8) ST. PETERSBURG, Russia -- March 8, 2003 -- RUSSIA-WOMEN -- For some, International Women's Day - a national holiday in Russia since Soviet times is a a time for flowers, perfume and boxes of candy, but for others, it is a time to reflect about what it means to be a woman in Russian society. Olga Lipovskaya, chairwoman of the St. Petersburg Center for Gender Issues, led a demonstration Saturday, March 8, 2003, in St. Petersburg, Russia, against sexism and to demand more representation for women in the government.
