(NYT20) SALAHUDDIN, Iraq -- March 8, 2003 -- IRAQ-KURDS -- Iraqi Kurdish leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Massoud Barzani, listens a question from the media during a news conference in Salahuddin city, which is controlled by KDP, which runs the northern Iraqi provinces of Arbil and Dohuk, Saturday, March. 8, 2003. Hundreds of Turkish army vehicles moved towards the Iraqi border area on Friday, amid increased military activity that the armed forces have described as security precautions. Iraq's Kurds are not bothered by reports of a buildup of Turkish troops on the border of their self-governing region, but Barzani urged them on Saturday not to enter Iraq. "We have noticed reports of troop movements and deployments inside Turkish territory. We are not concerned," says Barzani. (Ruth Fremson/The New York Times)
