(NYT36) CANTON, Ohio -- Sept. 12, 2003 -- OHIO-JOBS-2 -- Over the last three years Ohio has lost more than 160,000 factory jobs, representing one-sixth of its total, part of the 2.7 million manufacturing jobs lost nationwide in the last three years. For 29 years, Jim Greathouse was part of the blue-collar elite, a tool-and-dye man making precision metal molds that factories use to stamp parts. In June, Greathouse lost his job at Hoover's vacuum cleaner factory in Canton. Greathouse in front of Hoover's main plant in North Canton, Sept. 11, 2003. (David Maxwell/The New York Times) *LITE
