(NYT20) NEW YORK -- Sept. 2, 2003 -- CABARET-THEATER -- The Roundabout Theater Company's revival of "Cabaret'' at Studio 54 is leaving without having worn out its welcome. But beyond the show itself, it is the third-longest-running revival ever on Broadway, after "Chicago'' and "Oh! Calcutta!'' -- and has quietly enriched the world of the stage (and to some degree the screen) in ways that not many shows can claim. Natasha Richardson, left, and Alan Cumming were the revival's first stars. The actors in a scene from the production at the Kit Kat Club in March 1998. (Sara Krulwich/The New York Times)
