(NYT51) NEW YORK -- August 27, 2003 -- RUBBER-BAND-PLANES-3 -- For a little over three years now, Bob Bender, 78, has been bringing his table of tools, his rubber bands and his boxes of hand-made model planes into Hangar B at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, to share his love of flight with anyone who stops by to visit. Bender proudly displays a rubber-band-powered, gossamer flying machine in the hangar on Aug. 5, 2003, which weighs about 10 ounces. (Vincent Laforet/The New York Times)
