(NYT6) RAWALPINDI, Pakistan -- Aug. 18, 2002 -- PAKISTAN-DENTISTS -- The legions of street dentists in Pakistan are a testament to Pakistanis' high pain thresholds and desperate poverty. Muhammad Jameel, a Rawalpindi street dentist, checks a false tooth that he'd just set in the mouth of Muhammad Sajjad, a factory worker, in August. Jameel is among thousands of street dentists who provide crude dental care to tens of thousands, possibly hundreds of thousands, of pitiable patients a year in the avenues, parks and trains of Pakistan.
