(NYT42) HOBOKEN -- Aug. 21, 2002 -- WTC-HOBOKEN -- As the first anniversary of the terror attack approaches, the still-evolving roll of victims has only confirmed a sad expectation that many in the city of Hoboken, N.J., have held since they watched the dust of the twin towers' collapse creep across the Hudson: that Hoboken would suffer more than its share of loss. The Hoboken numbers, showing that nearly 1 out of every 1,000 people there died, vividly illustrate the impact of the attacks on one community by taking into account the size of the city. John Morris still comes to a waterfront spot in Hoboken, even though the Manhattan skyline reminds him of the losses felt in his city. "In most cases it's not just somebody who knows somebody, but somebody who knows 30 people." (Angel Franco/The New York Times)
