(NYT40) FORT BRAGG, N.C. -- Feb. 19, 2003 -- IRAQ-MILITARY-CHILDREN-2 -- Discussions about troop deployments are routine these days at the schools around Fort Bragg, N.C., home to the 82nd Airborne Division and the Special Operations Command. With 6,000 soldiers from the base reported to be deploying to join the war on terrorism, the front pages of the local newspapers are filled with pictures of men and women in desert camouflage saying good-bye to their families. Col. Arnold N. G. Bray helped his son A.J., 12, with a project before leaving for the antiterrorism effort, in their home in Fort Bragg, N.C., Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003.
