(NYT48) KENNEBUNK, Maine -- Feb. 5, 2003 -- MAINE-FRANKS -- In the summertime, the choice seats at Bartley's Dockside in Kennebunk, Maine, are outdoors under the colorful umbrellas. It has been that way for more than 20 years, and no one objected that the table umbrellas advertised products like Budweiser, Poland Spring, Sam Adams and Coca-Cola. But last summer a town official ordered him to tape or paint over the dozen umbrellas that were advertising Hebrew National Beef Franks. Brian Bartley, owner of Bartley's at the restaurant with an umbrella Sunday, February 2, 2003. (Herb Swanson/The New York Times)
