(NYT25) CARACAS, Venezuela -- Jan. 31, 2003 -- VENEZUELA-OIL -- Though hammered by a 61-day strike, Venezuela's oil industry is now pumping three times the crude it was in December and will soon meet contractual commitments that were scrapped when the walkout began, the president of the state-run petroleum company said on Friday. A man with a Venezuelan flag protested on Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, outside a hotel in Caracas, Venezuela where negotiators sought to end an oil strike after almost two months.
