(NYT24) NEW YORK -- Feb. 24, 2003 -- GQ-CHIEF-RESIGN -- Art Cooper, the longtime editor-in-chief of GQ, a men's magazine owned by Conde Nast Publications, announced Monday that he would step down from his post in June. Cooper walked into the office of S.I. Newhouse Jr., chairman of Conde Nast, on Monday morning and said he would be retiring, according to a Conde Nast spokesman. Cooper, who took over GQ 19 years ago, was recently inducted into the American Society of Magazine Editors' Hall of Fame. Cooper at the GQ office in Manhattan in October 2002.
