(NYT3) PLANT CITY, Fla. -- Jan. 24, 2003 -- COLD-WEATHER-1 -- Ice covers oranges in a grove near Plant City, Florida, Friday, January 24, 2003. Farmers left sprinklers on overnight in order for ice to form on the oranges to act as insulation. Bitter cold gripped the eastern two-thirds of the country Friday. However citrus growers in Florida breathed a bit easier because overnight temperatures stayed a shade above the threshold where serious crop damage can appear. (Rick Runion/The Lakeland Ledger)
