(NYT30) WASHINGTON -- Nov. 8, 2002 -- HOUSE-DEMS -- Rep. Nancy Pelosi said Friday that she had secured the support necessary to become the new House Democratic leader. Her chief rival, Martin Frost of Texas, cleared the way when he dropped out of the race and endorsed Pelosi, a liberal from California. But a late entrant into the race, Harold Ford, a 32-year-old moderate from Tennessee, said he would continue to seek the position. Ford announcing his candidacy in Washington on Nov. 8, 2002.
