(NYT28) LOS ANGELES -- Feb. 8, 2001 -- ADV. FOR FEB. 11 -- TV-MUSIC-ERNST -- As a composer for "Behind the Music," VH1's weekly series chronicling the successes and excesses of popular musicians, composer Jon Ernst is called on to write scores to accompany those stars' tragedies: motor vehicle accidents, descents into drug abuse, the unfortunate loss of entire fortunes. Or, even better, combination platters with all three. "After you've written music for 20 car crashes, you begin to get a feel for what works" says Ernst in a Los Angeles musci studio.
