(NYT9) MCLEAN, Va. -- Feb. 6, 2001 -- BUSH-ASSESS-2 -- President George W. Bush comments on his tax plan as he pays a visit to the Tree Top Toys and Bookstore in McLean, Va., Tuesday. Bush pitched his 10-year, $1.6 trillion tax plan to small business owners Tuesday, arguing that lower taxes for the highest-paid Americans would put more customers in their stores and "more of your own money in your pocket." Standing in front of stacks of stuffed animals and toys, Bush called small businesses "the backbone of our nation" in terms of creating jobs that keep the economy going.
