Transmission electron micrograph of the Golgi apparatus and associated organelles of a cell from rat liver. Liver cells have multiple small Golgi complexes situated between the centrally placed nucleus and the intercellular bile canaliculi. Very low density lipoprotein particles synthesized in the rough and smooth endoplasmic reticulum are carried to the Golgi cisternae in transport vesicles.
