The Organisation BOS (Borneo Orangutan Survival foundation) takes care of the Orang Utans which live largely scale in people's homes, after the mothers were killed in the rainforest. These monkeys will be put back in the tropical rainforests on Borneo, after they have learned to take care of themselves. The World Wildlife Fund focusses on Borneo in 2005. The tropical rain forest of this island, which is divided between Indonesia, Malaisia and Brunei, is severely threatened by illegal logging and the cultivation of palm oil plantations. If this devastation does not slow down the forests on Borneo will have disappeared almost completely by 2020 according to the World Bank. Forests are crucial for the existence of many rare plants, trees, birds and animals like the Orang utan. One of the first steps towards conservation was taken in 2004, when the peat swamp forests in Sebangau were selected as National Park, and received a protected status.
