(NYT35) NEW YORK -- July 9, 2002 -- BUSH-BUSINESS-INVESTORS -- Across the country Tuesday, President Bush's speech drew similarly underwhelmed reactions from a wide range of investors, from day traders and white-collar workers in the Northeast, to factory workers and pensioners in the South, to investment club members and venture capitalists on the West Coast. While all said they were glad that the president had finally addressed the rash of corporate misdeeds, many said they remained doubtful that he was proposing sufficient reforms, or that what he was proposing would actually be done. Arthur Urrows, a fund-raising consultant for nonprofit groups, says, "I'm skeptical of whatever he says in most realms, but in this realm, I think he's largely on the side of the corporate executives.''
