" My mother was TBA and I learnt with her. Women come to me because when labour starts at night they often cannot find transport to go to health centers. I know when to refer women, for instance when the pelvic bones are too small for the baby, or when the baby comes feet first, which I feel with my hand, or when the uterus comes down (that is after many deliveries). Also, when a woman has not delivered by the end of the night I refer her to the hospital. I know some mothers have lost their child after going to the hospital but they went to health centers before and they delayed them..I never lost a child here. In Uganda roughly 16 women die everyday from childbirth-related complications. A big part of them still deliver at home, with a traditional birth attendant. " Ma mcre etait sage femme et j'ai appris avec elle. Les femmes viennent me voir car quand les contractions commencent pendant la nuit elle n'ont souvent pas le temps de rejoindre un centre de soin. Je sais quand refuser une patiente, par exemple si les os du pelvis sont trop petit pour le bebe, ou si le bebe sort les pieds en avant, ce que je sens avec ma main, ou quand l'uterus s'affaisse ( aprcs de nombreux accouchements ). De plus, quand une femme n'a pas accouche aprcs la fin de la nuit je la dirige vers un h?pital. Je sais que certains femmes ont perdu leur enfant aprcs etre alle r l'h?pital mais elle vont au centre de soin avant et sont retardes ... Je n'ai jamais perdu d'enfant ici.
