PHOTO: EAST NEWS/WOJTEK LASKI OSWIECIM, POLAND- DECEMBER 17 2009: The entrance to Auschwitz I concentration camp on the 17th December 2009 in Oswiecim, Poland. The now notorious motto over the gate, "Arbeit macht frei", translates as "Work makes you free". Auschwitz was a network of concentration camps built and operated in occupied Poland by Nazi Germany during the Second World War. Auschwitz I served as the administrative center, and was the site of the deaths of roughly 70,000 people, mostly ethnic Poles and Soviet prisoners of war.
