Songoyo Lonyari barters for sheep and goats at the Ololosokwan livestock market in Tanzania on behalf of his employer who is based in Aitong, Kenya, on March 3, 2024. Livestock is more expensive in Kenya so it is common for pastoralists and businessmen to buy animals here, cross the border, and sell them for a profit in Kenyan markets.
Songoyo grew up and made his own family in Oseroóthe 580 square miles of land adjacent to Serengeti National Park where Maasai had lived and grazed their cattle for generations ó until he became one of the thousands who were forcibly evicted and had their livestock confiscated to make way for an exclusive game reserve for the Dubai royal family.
