Kobiety w Pakistanie - Redux
An Afghan refugee who survived being beaten, kidnapped, and sexually assaulted by the Taliban poses for a portrait on the outskirts of Islamabad, Pakistan on July 7, 2018. She is currently being sheltered by Rukhshanda Naz, a Pashtun lawyer and human rights activist who fights for women and refugee rights. According to UNHCR, Pakistan is home to some 1.38 million registered Afghan refugees, and more than 1 million unregistered refugees. The issue of Afghan refugees has become contentious in Pakistan, as the government attempts to repatriate millions of refugees, many of whom have lived in the country since the USSR invasion in 1979. Souring diplomatic relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan have increased, as the government of Pakistan argues that Afghan refugees are a security risk, with terrorists infiltrating refugee camps. This makes the work of women like Ms. Naz that much more crucial.
