CHECKMATE! A Rook is seen chasing off an owl after it flew too close to their territory. The Verraux’s Eagle Owl was chased back to the safety of Liberty's Owl, Raptor & Reptile Centre, Ringwood, Hants where it had flown off from earlier in the day. Miles Herbert said, “The eagle owl was sitting in a hedgerow minding his own business when he was spotted by some of the Rooks who began to harass him until he decided to fly off. As he flew towards me one of the Rooks caught up with him and was trying to stamp on his back.” “The Verreaux's Eagle Owl belongs to Liberty's Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre and had flown off a little earlier in the day. When he was being mobbed by the Rooks he headed back to his "safe place" and came back to his aviary at the Centre. Thankfully he was unharmed during this incident.” Please byline: Miles Herbert/CaptiveLight/Solent News © Miles Herbert/CaptiveLight/Solent News & Photo Agency UK +44 (0) 2380 458800 *** Local Caption *** These show a Verreaux's Eagle Owl that was sitting in a hedgerow close to a Rookery when he was spotted by some of the Rooks who began to harass him until he decided to fly off. As he flew towards me one of the Rooks caught up with him and was trying to stamp on his back. Luckily I was there with the right camera equipment, photographing something else, when this started to happen in front of me giving me the perfect opportunity to catch it all on the camera. The Verreaux's Eagle Owl belongs to Liberty's Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre and had flown off a little earlier in the day. When he was being mobbed by the Rooks he headed back to his "safe place" and came back to his aviary at the Centre. Verreaux's Eagle Owls, also known as Milky Eagle Owls or Bubo lacteus, is native to Sub-Saharan Africa and is one of Africa's largest species of Owl. He was unharmed during this incident!
