Iranian tourists , 'No Ruz' holiday makers, Esfahan. The town is besieged for the 2-3 weeks duration of the New Year festival that celebrates the vernal equinox the start of the new Lunar year March 20/21 . Here they are pictured on top of the 298 m Si-o-Seh Bridge , or bridge of 33 arches as its sometimes known, Esfahan, Central Iran. The upper arches are sought out by families for picnics and young couples such as the one pictured trying to steal a romantic moment away from the prying eyes of the authorities.
The bridge was built by Shah Abbas I between 1599-1602 . In total 11 bridges [six are new] cross the Zayandeh It serves as both a bridge and a dam something put to use by visitors to Esfahan who often wade across the river along the dams top. Tea houses are at either end of the bridge both are accessed through the larger arches underneath.
