One of Iran's most prominent sportswomen, Firouzeh Zamani, has embraced the increased sporting opportunities in Iran. When visiting her brother in Japan a decade ago, she developed a taste and a talent for golf and was keen to continue back in Teheran. However, there were too many hurdles: clothing restrictions at that time (teeing off wearing a chador is never easy), the poor quality of Teheran's only course, and the fact that women's participation was frowned upon. Five years ago women's golf began in earnest and she is now the captain of Iran's four-woman golf team. Women's sports were almost universally banned, or at least heavily discouraged, after the 1979 revolution.
