AUGUST 19, 2011 - JONESBORO, AR Damien Echols answers questions from reporters during a press conference after being released from jail Friday afternoon. Echols had been on death row. Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley Jr. and Jason Baldwin were dubbed the West Memphis Three after being convicted of the May 5, 1993 murder of three young boys in West Memphis, Arkansas. Misskelley Jr. was sentenced to a life sentence plus two 20 year sentences. Baldwin was sentenced to life imprisonment. Echols was sentenced to death. On Friday in Jonesboro, AR, the men were released from prison after DNA evidence from the crime did not match the West Memphis Three. NYTCREDIT: Steve Hebert for The New York Times
