Independence Square, the main square of the Turkmen capital Ashgabat, is a s howcase for President Niyazov's sultanistic regime. On the left of the marb le square is the Presidential Palace with its huge gold dome, which was erec ted by the giant French construction company Bouygues Batiment. On the left of this palace is the new Ministry of Defense.
