Germany's Beate Rotermund Uhse, a pioneer in selling sex ware whose chain of erotic shops became a publicly traded company, poses February 1984 in front of a video stand in Flensurg Central. Born Beate Rotermund, she married fellow air force officer Hans-Juergen Uhse at the end of the war and in 1949 formed her company after she had started publishing a two-page leaflet informing women about birth control. Founded over 50 years ago by Uhse, also a former World War II fighter pilot, it is Germany's only sex goods company listed on the stock exchange.
