A Polish soldier keeps watch over the desert near Iriba, eastern Chad March, on March 11, 2009, four days before the end of a European Force (EUFOR) mandate towards the United Nations Mission in the Central African Republic and Chad (MINURCAT), which expires on March 15. The government has asked Polish president Lech Kaczynski to retain troops in Chad after the end of the EU's UN-approved mandate, when the mission passes under the control of the world body.
