The Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy was the first Olympic venue to be finished. The couple arrived in Weymouth aboard the royal train from London's Waterloo Station. They were driven to Portland Dockyard by the Lord Lieutenant of Dorset where they were met by cheering schoolchildren waving Union Jack flags. As well as touring the facilities at the Academy the Queen and Prince Phillip also met stakeholders in the venue and the Games, including chairman of the 2012 organising committee Lord Sebastian Coe. They also watched as local youngsters took to the sea in dragon boats, kayaks and laser picos. The couple then boarded a Sunseeker yacht in order sail to Weymouth's Esplanade where they viewed a sand sculpture of Windsor Castle and watched football and volleyball demonstrations on Weymouth beach.
