Picture dated 1967 of astronauts Roger B. Chaffee (L), Edward H. White II (C) and Virgil I. Grissom (R), in the Apollo 1 command module, during a training exercice, at launch complex 34 at the Kennedy Space Center, in Cap Canaveral, Florida. All three astronauts died when the Apollo command module was destroyed by fire during a training exercise, 27 January 1967. It was the first major tragedy of the US space program.
