UNPLUCKY DUCKLING... One unlucky duckling was plucked out of the water by a waiting hungry heron. The heron was in wait as a mother duck passed a little too close with her two remaining ducklings beside her at Carmill Dam, St Helens. Rail director Jeff Sykes, 55, from Wigan, Lancs said, "I saw the mother mallard heading towards the juvenile heron with her last two remaining ducklings. I knew then to be ready because the heron had spotted her and was ready to pounce. It was easy for the heron to catch one when she came into shallow water." "The heron swallowed it hole. It's cruel, but it is also real nature. Some people like to see it, some don’t, but this is reality. Every living thing needs to eat - it’s the circle of life."
