"The Book Seller of Kabul", written by Norwegian journalist Asne Seierstad portrays Shah Mohammed Rais, a well-known bookseller famed in Afghanistan for opposing the Taliban's censorship laws, and his family. Seierstad lived with the family for some months in 2002 upon which the book was written. The Norwegian newspaper and television reporter who has covered wars in Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq was later sued by the bookseller's wife Suraia Rais and found guilty of defamation and "negligent journalistic practices?" by Oslo district court in 2010, but Seierstad won at the appeals level in Norway's Supreme Court. The subsequent lawsuit that Shah Mohammed filed also failed in Norway's Supreme Court. The book has been published in dozens of languages around the world.
