Russia's Soyuz rockets will be a vital asset in enabling Europe to pull its weight in science programmes aboard the International Space Station now that NASA is cutting back its financial contribution, space officials in Moscow said Friday. "The Europeans were due to contribute to the permanent onboard teams but the prospects don't look so good now," Yury Grigoryev, deputy engineering chief of the space constructor RKK Energiya, told AFP at its headquarters at Korolyov.
