United Nations peacekeepers transfer British aid worker Denis Rutowitz, 57, to an U.N. flight at Sarajevo's airport for an emergency medical evacuation, Friday, April 28, 1995, after he was shot while attempting to enter Sarajevo via the Mt. Igman road Thursday. Rutowitz, the chairman of Edinburgh Direct Aid, was hit by a heavy machine gun bullet in the shoulder, but was wearing a flak jacket which probably saved his life. Bosnian Serbs have refused to allow civilians to fly into Sarajevo recently which has meant all aid workers, journalists and even embassy officials are forced to drive other the dangerous Mr. Igman Road.
