Samuel Vernikoff, also known as Torresdale, is shown after he surrendered to police in Philadelphia, May 19, 1932, when he learned Federal authorities were looking for him. He said he knew John Hughes Curtis, fake mediator in the Lindbergh case. In Curtis??? original story, later branded by him as false, he mentioned the name of ??sSam??? as the man who first gave him information about the kidnapers. Vernikoff said he knew nothing of the Lindbergh kidnapping after surrendering. He was held by federal authorities on rum running charges. (AP Photo)
