In the mass ceremony, the largest in the history of the U.S. Army, 141 soldiers, eight of them wheelchairs recuperating from wounds, are decorated for gallantry at Hickam Field, in Hawaii on April 11, 1942. With army fighter planes roaring overhead, all salute as the band plays the National Anthem in the closing chapter of the mass decoration.
