Heavy rains and muddy roads forced the pressing into service of this tractor and sled as an ambulance when Mrs. John Heft, Matanuska colonist from Michigan, was stricken with appendicitis. She is shown, with her husband at her side, being transported by sled to the hospital at Palmer, Jan. 19, 1935. She was then rushed by railroad to Anchorage, where an operation was successful.
