AP Historical Hard Drive 2007
In the 1929 Rose Bowl in Pasadena California, center Roy Riegels earned a special place in the history of football with his infamous wrong-way run. Georgia Tech fumbled on its own 20-yard line, and Riegels quickly recovered. He thought he was a hero, but in the confusion he turned and ran 65 yards in the wrong direction! Teammate Benny Lom later caught Riegels as he crossed the goal lone, pushing him back to the one-yard line yet, the save was not enough. California was forced to punt and Vance Maree partially blocked the ball for a safety. Georgia Tech went on to win the game,8-7. (AP Photo)
